Wyoming homeowner adds comfortable living space
"Four years ago I moved into an 80 year old home in Wyoming, OH that was a exactly what my family wanted, with one exception. We had upper rooms that stayed hot in the summer, and cold in the winter. In addition the rising cost of energy was driving our utility bills higher than ever.
When I learned that GCEA would give my house a complete energy assessment at very low cost it was a no-brainer to say yes. The assessor who came to my house was very professional and thorough. The assessment took about 3 hours and he brought a powerful fan and shroud that he used to pull air through the house to identify all the places I had drafts. Maybe drafts isn't the right word; I had a strong breeze coming from my upper floor and a weaker one from the basement. That's not good.
A few days later I got a thorough list of recommendations of energy efficiency improvements along with a contractor's estimate and a generous subsidy from GCEA. I'll be able to save an estimated $551 per year on utilities with a payback on my investment of 3.5 years. That's something like earning a guaranteed 30% return on my investment.
Needless to say I accepted the recommendations and have the work scheduled for next week. It's been a great financial opportunity.
Oh, and one more thing, my daughter can now comfortably move from her smaller room into a newly air-sealed and insulated larger room, and she is very excited! That is priceless."
