Energy Alliance Incentives
The Greater Cincinnati Energy Alliance provides cash incentives that help make comprehensive home energy assessments and home energy upgrades more affordable for homeowners.
Once your assessment is completed and your contractor provides a home energy assessment report, the Energy Alliance offers cash incentives for qualifying projects and low-interest loans to help make your home energy upgrade more manageable.
Home Performance with ENERGY STAR®
Program Incentives up to $500
The Home Performance with ENERGY STAR incentives are for homeowners in Hamilton County in OH and Boone, Kenton, and Campbell Counties in KY. Qualifying improvements must effect a 15% reduction of energy consumption.
Utility Energy Efficiency Incentives
Your utility provider may offer rebates or incentives for energy efficiency improvements made to your home. If you are an Energy Alliance customer, you may be eligible for utility program rebates in addition to the incentives applied by the Energy Alliance. Contact the Energy Alliance or your Energy Alliance approved contractor for more details about the following incentives:
Duke Energy State Programs
Duke Energy offers rebate incentives for weatherization services, HVAC, and health checks through its Smart $aver program. Smart $aver incentives are for:
- Duke Energy Ohio and Kentucky electric residential retail customers in new or existing homes
- Work completed by participating vendors
- Work that meets minimum efficiency requirements
- Qualifying applications submitted within 90 days of work completion
Duke Energy Smart $aver Program - Ohio and Kentucky
Customers eligible for incentives up to $625+
- Up to $425 for weatherization improvements
- Up to $200 for each eligible heat pump or qualifying air conditioner
- $50 for a health and safety check.
Duke Energy Smart $aver Program - Indiana
Customers eligible for incentives up to $350+
- Up to $350 for weatherization improvements
- Up to $200 for each eligible heat pump, geothermal heat pump or qualifying air conditioner
- $50 for a health and safety check.
Butler Rural Electrical Cooperative, Inc.
Residential Rebates up to $372+
Butler Rural Electrical Cooperative customers can receive:
- Cool Returns A/C switch installation bill credit of $100 and $2 monthly credit
- Water heater radio-controlled switch installation $4 monthly bill credit
- $200 rebate on the purchase of a new or replacement dual fuel heat pump
- Receive a reduced kWh rate of 2¢ on any heat pump usage during the months of September through May
Owen Electric Energy Efficiency Programs
Program incentives up to $520+
Owen Electric offers several efficiency rebate and incentive programs for weatherization, heat pump installation, and direct load control switch to its customers. Owens Electric customers can receive:
- $40 for every 1,000 BTU reduction in heating energy usage through weatherization, $520 maximum credit through the Button-Up Program
- $500-$1,000 for certified heat pump installation, depending on AHRI rating, through the 2013 Heat Pump Rebate Program

A one-time $10 bill credit for direct load control switch installation through the Simple Saver Program
- $20 annually for each enrolled central air conditioner or pool pump
- $10 annually for each enrolled 40-gallon or greater electric water heater

Federal, State, and Local Efficiency Tax Credits
You may qualify for additional state, federal, and local utility incentives on your home energy efficiency improvements. Please visit the websites below for complete details on eligibility and how to apply for each credit.
Federal Energy Efficiency One Time Tax Credit
One time tax credit up to $500
There is a 10% of cost, maximum $500, one-time federal tax credit available for energy efficiency improvements made between January 1, 2012 and December 31, 2013. Please note, if you have claimed more than $500 in 25C tax credits since January 1, 2005, you are disqualified from any further credits. Claiming the tax credit on your tax forms will require you to claim it on Part 2 of the Residential Energy Credit Form 5695 (found here
) when you file your tax return.

Kentucky Energy Efficiency Tax Credit
Tax credit up to $500
State tax credits from $100-$250 (maximum $500 on all measures) are available for Kentucky residents on energy efficiency improvements such as insulation, high efficiency furnaces, and air conditioners. View tax credit details and requirements
from the Kentucky Department for Energy Development and Independence. New ENERGY STAR homes used as a principal residence are entitled to an $800 tax credit.
This credit expires December 31, 2015.
City of Cincinnati Community Reinvestment Area (CRA)
Residential Tax Abatement for LEED Homes
The City of Cincinnati provides property tax abatements to incentive buildings constructed or renovated to meet the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED certification standards, developed to help buildings conserve energy and meet other sustainability goals. The abatement is available for new construction and renovation, but applies only to the increased value of the property. All projects must have a signed agreement with the Cincinnati Department of Community Development before construction begins.
